Jesuit and John Curtis entered Saturday afternoon’s showdown at Mike Miley Playground tied atop District 9-5A leader board. Something, obviously, had to give.

Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the Jays’ day. A three-run homer in the first inning was all the Patriots would need as they cruised to an 11-2 victory, improving their record to 21-5, 8-1. Jesuit slipped to 19-6, 5-2.

Jesuit did attempt to answer the Patriots’ first inning barrage. The visiting Jays put runners on first and second with no outs in both the second and third innings, but were only able to push across two runs in those two frames. Those runs came courtesy of ground-outs by junior Michael Torry in the second inning and senior Marc Theberge in the third. The second inning saw Jesuit’s only two hits of the day, singles by seniors Sam Ovella and Marshall Lee.

Curtis, meanwhile, kept adding to their tally, sending four balls over the outfield fence on the day. It wasn’t until the 5th inning that the Patriots finally hung a zero on the scoreboard.

The two teams face off again on Monday, April 10 at John Ryan Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
