In the spirit of the season, Jesuit invites alumni to consider using a provision in the federal tax code to support their alma mater.

Donors aged 70 1/2 or older who transfer up to $100,000 from their IRAs directly to qualified charities, including Jesuit High School, during 2016 do not have to pay income taxes on the donated amount. The donated amount also counts towards the required minimum distribution.

Gifts qualify as tax free under the law if:

1. The donor is age 70 1/2 or older on the day the gift is made.

2. The donor transferred up to $100,000 directly from the donor’s IRA to one or more qualified charities anytime during 2016. This opportunity applies only to IRAs.

3. The donor does not receive any goods or services in return for the rollover gift.

4. The donor makes the gift by December 31, 2016.

Simplifying the Process

For your convenience, Jesuit has prepared a letter that you may use to contact your IRA administrator to request a gift be made to Jesuit or any other charity of your choosing. Download the fillable PDF to save, edit, and print.
