The Blue Jay wrestling team is holding steady in second place, just 23.5 points behind leader Brother Martin High School and 15 points ahead of Comeaux High School, at the end of the first day in the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at the CenturyLink Center in Bossier City.

Jesuit has seven of its wrestlers heading into the finals on Saturday, Feb. 13, including top seed Guy Patron, Jr. (195).

Jesuit coach Sheridan Moran says the Blue Jays aren’t out of the fight just yet.

“We’re not taking a backseat to anybody, but we’re going to keep getting better,” said Moran. “If we win by six [Friday], we want to win by seven [Saturday]. If we get a fall [Friday], we want to get a quicker one [Saturday]. These guys have a lot of pride in what it means to carry on the tradition of Jesuit wrestling.”

Day 2 action begins Saturday at 8 a.m. when the wrestlers close out consolations. The semifinals will begin at 10 a.m. The final rounds are slated to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.
