Setting the Stage for Floyd Collins

While fellow students rest after first-quarter exams, the Philelectic Society's tech crew is building platforms, painting scenery, and assembling the cave world of Floyd Collins.

While most Blue Jays are enjoying a break following first-quarter exams, members of the Philelectic Society’s tech crew are hard at work behind the scenes preparing for the upcoming production of Floyd Collins, set to run November 19–21.

With support from Patrick Cragin ’06 and D.J. Galiano ’07, students are transforming the stage through set construction, assembling platforms, building scenery, and preparing the technical elements that will bring the production to life. Among those putting in the work during the school break are seniors Witt Iacovone, Logan Simoneaux, Jett Sanchez, Peter Favalora, and Baraa Mahmoud, along with pre-freshman Anders Mortillaro.

From measuring and cutting lumber to painting and installing set pieces, the crew is gaining hands-on experience in the craftsmanship, teamwork, and problem-solving required to produce live theater.

The work taking place during the school break is an important part of the production process, giving students time to tackle larger construction projects before rehearsals move onto the completed set.

The Philelectic Society will present Floyd Collins November 19–21. Purchase tickets online and support the Blue Jays both onstage and behind the scenes.
