Track & Field delivered one of its strongest performances in recent history, earning the runner-up trophy with 64 points at the LHSAA Division I State Championship behind a collection of state titles, podium finishes, and record-breaking performances at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

The Blue Jays showcased their depth across sprints, hurdles, distance races, relays, and field events, highlighted by junior Ja’ir Burks and senior Connor Fanberg combining for three individual state championships and multiple record-setting performances.

Burks captured the state title in the 110-meter hurdles with a blazing time of 13.73, setting both a composite and class record in the event. He returned later in the meet to win the 300-meter hurdles in 37.97, completing a dominant sweep of the hurdle events and contributing valuable points toward Jesuit’s runner-up finish.

Fanberg added another state championship for the Blue Jays in the 1600 meters, crossing the line in 4:04.90 to break a 44-year-old Louisiana composite record while also setting a new class record and delivering one of the top distance performances in state meet history. Fanberg also scored points in the 800 meters with a seventh-place finish.

The distance squad continued to deliver throughout the meet. Junior David Quintana earned runner-up honors in the 3200 meters with a time of 9:10.51, while senior Joe Accardo added points with a seventh-place finish. Junior Patrick Smith contributed a fifth-place finish in the 1600 meters and later helped the Blue Jays take fourth in the 4×800-meter relay alongside senior Finn Connolly, junior PJ Fitzmorris, and sophomore Rhys Grant.

The Blue Jays also found success in the relay and field events. The 4×100-meter relay team of junior Caleb Frilot, Burks, senior Connor Pilié, and senior Drago Cvitanovich earned third place with a time of 41.71.

In the field events, senior Jude Cannon and Cvitanovich each cleared 13-11.25 to finish third and fourth respectively in the pole vault. Senior Spencer Waguespack placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 52-5.25, while junior Oliver Hartman secured fifth in the javelin with a throw of 164-1.

The team’s performance capped a season marked by consistency and depth across every event group. With multiple state champions, several podium finishes, and new composite and class records added to the program’s history, the Blue Jays once again proved themselves among Louisiana’s premier track and field programs.
