Welcoming the Newest Blue Jays

Nearly 300 newly admitted Blue Jays and their families were welcomed to campus for Welcome Day, marking an important first step in their journey as members of the Jesuit community. Representing schools from across the region, these newest Jays arrived eager to experience campus life and begin forming connections that will carry them into the school year and beyond.

Families were greeted by Jesuit parent volunteers, cheerleaders, the Blue Jay Band, and MCJROTC cadets—all proudly showcasing the spirit of Carrollton and Banks. Dressed in blue and white and full of excitement, new students and their families received a warm welcome as they stepped onto campus for the first time as Blue Jays.

The day began in the Chapel of the North American Martyrs, where Fr. John Brown, S.J., greeted new families. Senior Class President Michael Barnett and current parent Gabby Thompson shared their personal Jesuit stories, offering insight and inspiration to the incoming class. His message set the tone for the day, highlighting the values and experiences that define a Jesuit education.

Following the welcome, parents heard from Principal Dr. Jeremy Reuther ’01 and Director of Enrollment Theresa Truxillo, who provided important information and next steps to prepare for the start of school in the fall. At the same time, new Blue Jays met with groups of current student mentors who walked them through what to expect during their first year, highlighting investiture, retreats, and the pre-freshman pilgrimage. Guided by Big Brothers, students gained firsthand knowledge of navigating campus and received helpful tips about student life.

The excitement continued in Benson Arena, where Blue Jays were officially inducted into the Gizzard with blue eye paint during a spirited pep rally. Director of Admissions Jonathan Hernandez ’00 led the pep rally alongside Student Council e-board members with gameday cheers, while performances by the cheerleaders, Jayettes, and the Blue Jay Band energized the crowd.

The day concluded back in Traditions Courtyard, where families gathered to enjoy jambalaya prepared by Msgy Sgt. J.R. Piseno and the MCJROTC. New Blue Jays also left campus with spirit shirts and “J” lawnware, reminders of their first day as members of the Jesuit brotherhood.

Welcome Day offered more than just information—it provided new Blue Jays and their families with their first true sense of belonging within the Jesuit community. The school looks forward to welcoming this outstanding group of young men and supporting them as they begin their journey as Blue Jays.
