The Blue Jays closed district play in dramatic fashion, rallying past Rummel for a 5-3 victory to secure a share of the Catholic League championship.

With the win, the baseball team finishes district play at 11-3, tying Brother Martin atop one of the state’s most competitive leagues. The Catholic League annually features some of Louisiana’s top programs, with every game carrying postseason implications.

Rummel struck first, plating three runs in the second inning to take an early lead. The Jays settled in behind strong pitching and clean defense, keeping the deficit at two runs into the middle innings.

The Jays broke through in the fifth when senior Griffin Jeandron lined a ball into center field to bring home the first run and cut the deficit to 3-1. The team continued to apply pressure despite adversity, including junior Jackson Dugan taking a pitch near the face and later reaching base to help put runners in scoring position.

The turning point came in the sixth. Trailing by two, the Jays executed a squeeze bunt by senior Michael Brothers to make it a one-run game. Moments later, Jeandron delivered again, driving a ball into the gap that fell between the second baseman and right fielder, bringing home two runs to give the Blue Jays their first lead of the night.

The Blue Jays added to the lead as Dugan worked a walk to load the bases, and senior Brennan Jeansonne was hit by a pitch to force in another run, extending the advantage to 5-3.

On the mound, senior Maes Martin delivered a strong start, allowing three runs over six innings while striking out seven. Senior Jacob Chan closed the door with a scoreless inning in relief. The Jays were sharp defensively throughout, finishing the game without committing an error.

Jeandron led the offense with three RBIs, finishing 2-for-2 at the plate, while the Blue Jays showed patience with nine walks.

The win caps a competitive district race that saw Jesuit battle with both Rummel and Brother Martin down the stretch. The Jays split key series during district play and remained in contention throughout, entering the final games at 24-8 and ranked No. 9 in the state.
