Blue Jays Tee Off to 6–0 Start

Golf has opened its season with an undefeated 6–0 record. The team is led by head coach Bryan Bairnsfather, returning senior William Boasberg, and junior Duke Nitcher in its pursuit of a state title.
The season began with comfortable victories in away matches against district foes Archbishop Rummel, 141–172, and St. Augustine, 158–191. The Blue Jays then returned to their home course, English Turn Country Club, for a crucial district match, defeating Brother Martin. In that match, the team was led by two one-under-par 35s from sophomore Brooks Blanchard and freshman Augustin Gros. The top four was rounded out by Nitcher’s two-over-par 38 and sophomore John Discon’s five-over-par 41, resulting in a 148–167 victory over the Crusaders.
At the Elton Invitational, the Blue Jays defeated runner-up St. Thomas More by two strokes. Nitcher finished third on the individual leaderboard, while Gros won the tournament, taking home the title in a thrilling four-hole sudden-death playoff.
The team continued its strong play in a home match against Holy Cross. On a windy day, the Blue Jays were led by three two-over-par 38s from Blanchard, Boasberg, and Discon. Nitcher’s five-over-par 41 rounded out the top four, and the Jays defeated Holy Cross, 155–197.
The Jays are back on the greens Monday, March 23 at 4 p.m. to play Shaw at Stonebridge.
