Baseball battled in district play yesterday in dramatic fashion, rallying in the final inning to defeat John Curtis, 4-3, at John Ryan Stadium.

Trailing 3-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Blue Jays put together a clutch, three-run comeback to secure the walk-off victory. Senior Joe Bosco started the rally by driving in a run on a fielder’s choice, followed by an RBI single from sophomore Jace DeLatte to tie the game. Moments later, senior Michael Brothers delivered the game-winning hit with a single to left field, sending the Blue Jays home with an exciting win.

The victory came after an uphill battle. John Curtis struck first, scoring in the fifth inning on an RBI single. The Patriots held the lead late behind strong pitching. The Blue Jays pitching staff kept the deficit manageable throughout. Senior Maes Martin started on the mound and turned in a solid performance, allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings while striking out four. Sophomore Harrison Serio provided relief before sophomore Harper Oncale closed the door in the final inning to earn the win.

Offensively, the team saw contributions across the lineup. Seniors Griffin Jeandron, Derek DeLatte, Jackson Dugan, Brothers, and sophomore J. DeLatte each recorded a hit. J. DeLatte, Bosco, and Brothers each drove in runs, while the Blue Jays also turned a key double play defensively.

With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 18-4 overall and 5-0 in district play and will look to carry that momentum into Saturday’s rematch with John Curtis. Game two of the series will be played Saturday, March 21 at Harahan Playground starting at 10:30 a.m.
