The No. 2 seeded Blue Jays started the chase for another state title on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at Tad Gormley Stadium against No. 31 seeded Slidell. Jesuit proved to be the tougher side by winning 3-0 on a windy and rainy night.

Jesuit has not been the epitome of consistency that most Jay fans are used to, but this win demonstrated why they are still the second seeded team in the state, and how dominant they can be at their best.

The first half showcased how methodical the Blue and White can be in the attacking third. By not forcing ill-advised passes or shots, the Jays constantly applied pressure in the box that resulted in well-placed corner kicks by senior Zane Madi.

But, even with the superior possession, the ball did not find the back of the net until senior forward Matthew Busenlener made a clinical finish in the bottom corner to give Jesuit the early lead. The squad would never look back.

With the half winding down, junior Carter Dusang decided to take on multiple defenders and release a shot as he was falling down. The ball trickled past the opposing keeper and into the side netting to double the lead.

Out of the break, Jesuit kept up the pressure and laced multiple shots that were blocked or hit the crossbar. After multiple scoring opportunities, junior James Waguespack produced a nice finish to cement the victory.

Jesuit will travel to Baton Rouge in the Regional round of the playoffs with kickoff set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5.
