Tennis Doubles Up, Wins Two Matches Simultaneously
Jesuit’s tennis team stayed unbeaten in local play, winning a pair of matches at UNO on Tuesday, April 3.
Eleven different players, six of them freshmen, suited up for the simultaneous dual meets.
The marquee match-up of the day was against district foe Archbishop Rummel. Senior Jonathan Arnold led the way in that match, teaming up with junior David Dillon for an 8-7 win on Line 1 in doubles, and then following that up with an 8-0 shutout in his Line 1 singles match.
Four freshmen teamed up for the other two doubles wins against the Raiders. James Bostick and Ethan Morgan won 8-1 on Line 2, and Porter Lichtl and Carter Dimaggio won 8-1 on Line 3.
Completing the sweep in singles were Bostick (8-2 on Line 2), Dillon (8-2 on Line 3), and Morgan (8-1 on Line 4).
Meanwhile, the Jays were also competing against a combined squad comprised of players from De La Salle and John Curtis. In that match the Jays again swept all seven contests. In singles, freshman Nick Crockens led the way with an 8-0 win on Line 1. He got help from sophomore Luke Russo (8-0 on Line 2), freshman Keating Landry (8-0 on Line 3, and junior Stephen Redfearn (8-3 on Line 4). Russo notched a rare golden match, winning 32 consecutive points to defeat his opponent.
In doubles play Crockens teamed up with junior William Bostick for an 8-1 win on Line 1, Russo and Landry shut their opponents out on Line 2, and the Patriot/Cavalier combination forfeited on Line 3.
The Jays return to the UNO courts on Thursday, April 5 for a contest with Lusher. Match time is 4:00 p.m.
