The 100-hour Senior Service Project is an opportunity to encounter Christ through relationships with others in need. As part of Jesuit’s mission of forming men for others, each senior serves a single community service partner for 100 hours before reflecting on the experience through writing and group discussion.

This summer, several seniors completed their service at Camp Benny, an inclusive summer camp established by the Beignet Fest Foundation for children on the autism spectrum.

Designed to provide a structured, sensory-friendly environment, Camp Benny gives autistic children opportunities to build friendships, develop social skills, and enjoy a traditional summer camp experience with individualized support and a high counselor-to-camper ratio. Blue Jays served as camp counselors, working alongside campers during games, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, and daily routines. By offering encouragement, patience, and one-on-one attention, they helped campers navigate new experiences while building meaningful relationships with the children and their families.

The experience gave the seniors a firsthand understanding of the unique gifts and challenges of children with autism while reinforcing the importance of adaptability, compassion, and personal connection. Small moments, whether a camper trying a new activity, making a friend, or proudly completing a project, highlighted the impact of consistent encouragement and support. Students experienced firsthand Jesuit’s commitment to forming men with competence, conscience, and compassion.

As they prepare for their final year at Jesuit, these Blue Jays will complete the final components of the Senior Service Project by reflecting on their experiences in writing and in conversation with classmates and faculty.
