Senior Sebastian Hewett has been awarded the Louisiana Legislative Scholar Award at Tulane University, a prestigious scholarship awarded to Louisiana students through the university’s Louisiana Legislative Scholars Program. Hewett, is an alumnus of Stuart Hall and the son of Terrill and Isabel Hewett.

Throughout his time at Jesuit, Hewett has distinguished himself through academic achievement, leadership, and service. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Sodality of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, and the St. John Berchmans Society. He has also participated in the Big Brother Program, served as a Jesuit summer camp counselor, and was selected as a Jesuit High School nominee for the POSSE Scholarship. In addition to his school nomination, Hewett also received an independent POSSE Scholarship nomination through the Ochsner Health STAR Program.

Hewett’s commitment to serving others extends beyond campus. As a Big Brother mentor, counselor-in-training at Camp Rough Riders, volunteer for the annual Thanksgiving Drive, Welcome Day tour guide, and volunteer with Second Harvest Food Bank, he has consistently embraced opportunities to accompany and support others in his community.

His interest in science and medicine was further strengthened through his selection as a 2025 Ochsner STAR Summer Scholar. The highly competitive four-week Science, Technology, Academics, and Research (STAR) Program provides students with immersive experiences in scientific research, practical medicine, and leadership development, preparing participants for future studies and careers in healthcare and related fields.

At Tulane, Hewett plans to major in biomedical engineering with a minor in mechanical engineering. He also intends to pursue the university’s accelerated 4+1 combined degree program, earning both a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering in five years.

Above all, Jesuit relentlessly pursues God’s greater glory. While students’ academic accolades reflect the school’s mission, they are not the mission itself. They instead signify that Blue Jays are becoming the men that they were made to be: men of faith and men for others.

Alongside celebrating students who attain these academic accomplishments, Jesuit also highlights graduating seniors who are named winners of highly selective merit-based national scholarship competitions. Click here to read about more of these students.
