Track & Field Ties for Regional Title

The track and field team tied with Slidell for first place at the regional meet. Senior Brady Mullen, the composite state-meet record holder in the 3,200-meter run, won the 1,600-meter title, finishing ahead of teammate junior Connor Fanberg. Mullen, who also claimed the 3,200-meter crown, said the field’s pace should propel him to another record. “Whatever pace we’re going, it’s going to be fast enough to break the state record no matter what,” he said.
Senior Brandt Blanchard prevailed in the 800-meter run, junior Spencer Waguespack secured second place in shot put with a mark of 50-1—ranking among the top 25 in Louisiana—and freshman Pax Cannon set a personal best in the pole vault at 10-0. Sophomore Ja’ir Burks swept both hurdle events, one week after setting a district 9-5A record in the 110 hurdles with a time that ranks among the fastest nationally. “I think I could do something pretty big in both events,” Burks said. “If I just train hard enough during this next week and a half, I think I can do some big stuff.”
The team now turns its focus to Baton Rouge for the state meet on Saturday, May 10 at LSU.
