Jesuit Tennis secured the Region IV Championship today at City Park, edging out Brother Martin to secure the top spot. The victory was highlighted by the outstanding performance of juniors Leo Congeni and Scott Harper, who emerged victorious in doubles, clinching first place overall. Their win in the championship match against Brother Martin’s premier team marked a pivotal moment, with Congeni and Harper winning in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.

Contributions came from across the team, with senior Noah St. Germain and sophomore JP Costello reaching the semi-finals in a match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Additionally, juniors Andrew Cavallino and Gabe Goodson advanced to the quarterfinals with their performance, adding to Jesuit’s overall points and eliminating St. Paul’s from state contention.

Singles players senior Josh Verges and junior Jake Bravo both advanced to the semi-final rounds, securing significant victories through the quarterfinals against competitors from Covington, Mandeville, Slidell, and Fontainebleau. Verges faced a challenging match against a rival from Brother Martin in the semi-final conceding in the last set. Bravo was also narrowly defeated by a senior from St. Paul’s with scores of 7-5, 6-0.

Demonstrating their collective strength and determination, all five lines of Jesuit’s tennis team have qualified to compete at the state level. The Blue Jays advance to the State Tournament in Monroe on Thursday, April 25.
