Regular Order, Day 2

  • The Jesuit Men of Color finish their Four on Friday Music of the Movement lecture series today during the first half of lunch in Room 210. Senior Kyiori Washington will play four songs that have special meaning for his own family, from Mahalia Jackson to Common.
  • The annual school-wide king cake party will take place today during the second half of lunch in the courtyard.
  • The Poker Club will meet during the first half of lunch in Room 120. 
  • The varsity baseball team will face Slidell this afternoon in the Lakeshore Jamboree at Lakeshore High School starting at 4:00. The team will open its season on Monday vs. Northshore at Kirsch-Rooney with first pitch set for 2:00.
  • The 9th grade baseball team will scrimmage Rummel this afternoon at Rummel starting at 4:00.
  • The Indoor Track and Field team will compete in the state championship meet on Saturday at LSU.
  • The Tech Crew is looking for new members. If you are a maker or have an interest in lighting, sound, construction, painting, or any other behind the scenes creative work, stop by the Phils office, Room 201, at lunch or after school for more information and an application.

  • Jesuit’s student newspaper, The Blue Jay, has published a Mardi Gras special report available exclusively on the Jesuit Student Life Canvas page. Check out the can’t miss spots for the carnival season and where to catch the Blue Jay band on the parade route. The full print edition will hit newsstands after the Mardi Gras break.
  • Mardi Gras beads will collected after the break to be recycled at St. Michael School. Students are encouraged to catch lots of beads at the parades and then bring them to school after Mardi Gras break.

Results:

  • The 8th grade basketball team finished with 4 wins last week defeated St Aug, Brother Martin, St Charles Catholic, and Country Day. Clayton Guste and Hayes Mestayer led the scoring against the Purple Knights with 8 apiece. Ja’ir Burks took two charges to lead the defense. Against the Crusaders, John-Michael Maristany scored 11, Ian Pratt 11, and Jack Maguire 17. Versus the Comets, Ian Pratt led the team with 16 points. In the game against Country Day, Logan Sterbcow scored 10, Ian Pratt scored 12 and took a charge; Jack Maguire led the scoring with 20. Sterbcow and Calvin Magee led the defensive effort.
  • On Thursday night, the Freshman Basketball team ended their stellar season with a 61-29 victory over John Curtis. The team finished the season with a 23-2 record overall and a 9-0 district record. Against Curtis, Tyler Farley led the team in scoring with 16 points. Sven Jensen and Zachary LaGraize added 10 each. The team also got contributions from Brennan Carriere, Colin Gravener, Adam Ahmed, David Prouet, and Brady Autin. 
  • On Thursday, the JV Basketball team finished the season with a 54-19 win over John Curtis. Ben Cimini led the team in scoring with 14 points. Neil Odeh had 10 points, and Ethan Lapeze added 8. Pete Metzinger and Anthony Montalbano contributed quality minutes. Also, Jacob Washington slammed home a beautiful alley-oop pass from Harrison Gootee to close out the Patriots. 
  • Last Thursday, Gizzard Gaming’s Overwatch team led by Senior Captain Stefan Schexnayder consisting of Seniors Patrick Roddy, Joshua Pettus, Carter Smith, Jake Palo, and Ron Blanchard crushed the Bellmore-Merrick Colts in a 3-0 sweep to start 1-0 for the season.
