After competing on a national-level all season long, Jesuit’s top runners took to their home turf to nab the 9-5A District Championship title for a consecutive year on Oct. 27, at City Park. The Jays swept the top six landing a perfect team score of 15 points. It was an incredibly fast race for the seven Jesuit runners competing, six of them broke their personal records (PR) and four of them broke the 15-minute mark.

With an exceptional showing senior Jack DesRoches also broke the City Park course record with an astounding time of 14:29 to grab first place. The previous record was set by St. Paul’s Eric Coston with a time of 14:48. Close behind was teammate sophomore Brady Mullen who took second with a time of 14:36, also finishing ahead of the previous record. Also scoring for the Jays were seniors Robert Buisson in third (14:49) and Patrick Dowd in fourth (14:52) followed by sophomore Leland Crawford in fifth (15:02).

”We were excited to race at home in front of friends and family and for the opportunity to compete against a very good Brother Martin team,” remarked coach Cullen Dooty ‘08. “I was really happy to see 6 of our guys set PRs on that course and very excited to have Michael Vocke back racing and on track to get back to himself. We’ll put this race behind us and get back to practice where we’ll keep working hard to get better.“

Next up for the Blue Jays is the 5A Region 3 Meet, often referred to as the Metro Meet on Friday, Nov. 4. However, Jesuit traditionally rests its top runners in that race, giving the rest of its team an opportunity to compete and shine on a larger stage. Soon, the team will turn its attention to preparing for the LHSAA State Championships in Natchitoches on Monday, Nov. 14, followed by nationals after that.
