Blue Jay Bowling Breaks School & State Records

Jesuit Varsity Bowling is going strong mid-season with an incredible record-breaking week setting all time high scores and pumping up the team for their district games on the horizon. The Blue Jays are currently ranked at No. 10, with the highest boys power rating in the metro area.

Monday’s Game

The varsity bowling team rolled its second consecutive shut out Monday, March 8, defeating Crescent City Christian, 27-0 at AMF .  Junior Luke Wood recorded the high game of the day, a 234. Also breaking the 200 game-score mark were Gary Sims, Ben Hunn, Will Adams, Will Carpenter, and Brandon Griffin.

Thursday’s Game

The 24-3 victory against Patrick Taylor on Thursday, March 11 was truly something special. The Blue Jays not only set a new school record, but a new state record as well. In 18 games (3 matches total), the Jays knocked down 3,951 pins (total team series), 128 more pins than the old school record. The first two matches scores 1,330 and 1,386 for a total of 2,716 set the a new state record and topped the 2,676 record set by Brother Martin last year in their match against Jesuit. The Blue Jays’ three-game series total now ranks No. 3 in the state, just 61 pins shy of the state record, 4,012.

Senior Ben Hunn (211-258-224) and juniors Luke Wood (252-238-216) and Gary Sims (264-256-224) all broke the 250 mark and set season-high series. Sims posting the highest score, 264, and highest series,744, of the day. Senior Michael McGovern recorded a pair of 200-plus games as did sophomores Will Adams and Will Carpenter who finished with great series of 617 and 612, respectively. The bowling team is now 8-1.

“The boys bowled awesome on this week.  I am so proud of them,” says coach Todd Bourgeois ’88. He looks forward to their first district game against East Jefferson High School on Thursday, March 18 at AMF All-Star Lanes in Kenner.
