Jesuit Wrestling Picks Up Major Victory

The wrestling team grabbed a prominent win on Wednesday, January 20, over returning 3-time Division 1 State Champion Brother Martin High School. Brother Martin had not lost a dual meet in Louisiana since the Jays defeated them in the 2017 District Dual.

The Dual started with a come from behind win by sophomore Tyler Autin. Junior Dennis Dougherty and freshman Spencer Lanosga followed up with pins to put the Blue Jays up 18-0 to start the dual meet.

Lightweights John Michael Bourgious (sophomore), Chase Haydel (sophomore), and Ferdie Laudumiey (junior) fought hard to keep the Jays in the lead at 18–12 through 6 matches. Senior captain Joseph Rosevally picked up the next win for the Blue Jays to put the score at 21–12 followed by a tough loss for sophomore James Nolan.

Sophomore Jack Siedell re-energized the Blue Jays with a pin to put the score at 27–18. Junior Jackson Ballay fought hard in a loss before senior captain Luke Battaglia secured a win, putting the team score at 30–22 with 3 matches left.

After a hard-fought loss for Junior Winn McConnell, seniors Parker Anderson and Yates Hoffman sealed a victory for the Blue Jays with 2 pins and a 42–28 final score.

Next up for the Blue Jay wrestlers is a dual meet against Archbishop Rummel High School on Saturday. The State Wrestling tournament will take place February 26 and 27 in Baton Rouge where wrestlers will be vying to bring the title back to Banks Street.
