It does not take long to recognize the talent of Will Hellmers ’20. From the mound, he possesses an easy delivery that can reach 90 at the high school level and has left plenty of high school standouts wondering at the plate.

His superior skill does not stop there as he is just as menacing inside the box. His 6-foot-4-inch stature crowds the plate, and his quick hands allow him to cover the outside corner while not giving up the inside fastball.

With all these attributes, Hellmers will have a chance to improve on a stellar high school campaign in Baton Rouge under LSU head coach Paul Mainieri.

Mainieri already had this to say about Hellmers to 24/7sports.com:

“Will is an excellent addition to our pitching staff. He enjoyed a nice career offensively at Jesuit, and he quite possibly be another Austin Bain for us. He has been regarded as the top prep pitcher in New Orleans for some time now. As you would expect, coming from Jesuit High School, he is a fantastic student. On the mound, he has a very smooth operation and has a history of commanding all of his pitches. One thing that has always stood out is his ability to pitch inside with his fastball, which is something you don’t always see out of younger pitchers. Will’s high maturity level will serve him well as he makes the jump to college baseball.”

The former Blue Jay will be trying to roar like a Tiger come February and already has the backing of his new coach, which should invoke confidence in an already mature player.
