From The Ryan to Rooney, Jays Sweep the Crusaders
From John Ryan to Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, the Jesuit High School (JHS) baseball team completed its district-opening series with a clean sweep of the Brother Martin (BM) Crusaders. Game 1 was an extra-inning nail-biter, providing entertainment to the packed house of Blue Jay fans. Game 2 was a hit fest for the away team, bringing satisfaction to Blue Jay coaches, players, and loyal fans who enjoyed the show.
Moran Led the Machine
Game 2: Jesuit 14, Br. Martin 1
Senior Will Moran’s arm and bat worked like well-fueled machines Thursday night at Kirsch-Rooney. Leading the Jays to a satisfying 14-1 victory, Moran pitched a complete game and went 2-for-2 with an RBI in the Blue Jays’ second straight win against Brother Martin.
The Jays followed a 4-run third inning with their 7-run fourth inning, started, nevertheless, by a Will Moran single. Infielder Seth Dardar followed suit with a single, paving way for a Will Hellmers bunt that scored Moran. Later in the inning Tripp Haddad hit a bases-loaded RBI single, and Parker Serio and Luke Eccles were both hit by pitches. After a few more runs the lineup circled back to Moran and Hellmers, who hit an RBI sacrifice fly and RBI single, respectively.
When There’s a Will, There’s a Way
Game 1: Jesuit 2, Br. Martin 1
After throwing five strikeouts and seven scoreless innings, pitcher Will Hellmers made his first error in the top of the first extra inning. The Jays surrendered one run in the top of the 8th, and Brenden Berggren took the mound to finish the inning. But Hellmers’ night was not over.
Trailing 1-0 with two outs and empty bases, Seth Dardar battled the BM pitcher and eventually walked. Hellmers subbed in to hit a perfectly placed RBI double down the right-field line. Sophomore Zack Casebonne then stepped to the plate and smashed a walk-off single to score Hellmers and force the Blue Jay crowd to shake John Ryan Stadium with excitement.
Through the Lens…
