On Saturday, Jan. 19, the Blue Jay rugby team opened the 2019 season with a home match versus rival Brother Martin. The Jays won a decisive victory, 36-12.

The Jays took the field with a host of new players who were eager to show they deserved a spot on the two-time defending state champion Blue Jays squad. And they did not disappoint. Seniors Jack Juge, Cole Roy, Will Moates, and Byrne Musser formed powerful core of new players that imposed their will on the Saders throughout the contest. Their brawn was complemented by the leadership and skill of many veteran players, including seniors Will Newel, Daniel Davillier, Langston Goldenberg, and Peter James among others. Tries were scored by Goldenberg, Davillier (two), James, senior David Childs, and senior Gavin Skipper.
