The Blue Jay basketball team went 2-1 in the Newman Invitational Tournament last week. In each game, the outcome was largely determined by the team’s 1st Quarter performance. In the first round, Wednesday night game against John Ehret, the Jays simply could not miss from behind the arc in the 1st, outscoring Ehret 20-0. But it was an opposite story at the end of the 1st Quarter on the following day against Country Day. The Jays were down 16-3 at the end of 8:00 and went on to shoot just 29% from the field in their first lost of the season. The team rebounded on Saturday in the consolation bracket, getting out ahead of Northshore 23-11 at the end of the 1st and maintained their lead throughout the contest. Although they picked up their first loss of the season, the Jays now hold an impressive 12-1 season record.
