Football Finishes 5-5, Hosts St. Paul’s in Playoffs
Jesuit’s football team suffered a 16-8 loss to Brother Martin on Friday night at Tad Gormley Stadium.
After a tough non-district loss to Destrehan on October 26, the Blue Jays looked to close out their season above .500 with a Catholic League victory over the Crusaders. The Jesuit defense had just surrendered more points to Destrehan (28) than it had all season, while the offense impressed with two scoring drives in both the first and fourth quarters. In Friday night’s game against the Crusaders, the defense clearly buckled down and, in the end, allowed just 16 points. The offense struggled in the first half, could not find a rhythm after halftime, and could not find a touchdown until there was 2:34 left in the game.

Defensive end Perry Ganci pressures the Crusaders’ quarterback and forces him to throw the ball away. Ganci recorded 11 tackles and two sacks in another stout defensive effort by the Jays.

In His Words…
“We got outplayed,” said head coach Mark Songy after the game. “They just did a better job than we did. At this point, we certainly have a lot to straighten out, so it doesn’t matter who we face next. We can’t play like that against anybody and expect our season to go any longer.”
