It was a warm and vibrant day for all the golfers at the 2018 Jesuit Golf Classic, presented by IBERIABANK. A total of 220 Blue Jays and friends took to the links to support Jesuit and play on the challenging Rees Jones-designed, par-72 championship course at Bayou Oaks at City Park on Friday, April 6.

Scott Lagarde, Roland Waguespack, Wiggins Edrington, and William Elliott receive their Class Cup trophy from Golf Classic chairman J.P. Escudier ’95.

Class Cup

The coveted Class Cup, which goes to the foursome made up of alumni from the same class with the lowest overall score, is awarded to the Class of 1992. The winning foursome includes William Elliott, Wiggins Edrington, Scott Lagarde, and Roland Waguespack.

Morning Round

The winning foursomes were determined using a Jesuit-inspired (and Bayou Oaks-approved) innovative handicap scoring system that divided golfers into three flights based on how they finished. The morning round, consisting of more than 100 golfers, was won by two groups who tied for first – foursome Mark Gates, Paul Bayer, Edwin Lee, and Steve Losavio and threesome Roberto Rocha, Walter Martin, and Mike Migliore. Both groups posted a score of -15.

The foursome of Mark Madden, Michael Morse, Johnny Cerniglia, and Nick Gambino took second place with a score of 62 (-10). Keith Hemel, Jason Cerise, David St. Germain, and Brian Porsche finished third, recording a 5-under 67.

Afternoon Round

The afternoon round, made up of 120 golfers, was also won by two different groups. The foursome of Mike Pizzitola ’02, Sean Hardy ’02, Ryan Peters ’06, and Philip Kelly ’04 tied with ’92 Class Cup winners William Elliott, Wiggins Edrington, Scott Lagarde, and Roland Waguespack. Both groups carded a 13-under 59.

Second place in the afternoon went to the foursome of Jack Dardis ’59, Di Morvant ’59, Bill Eastin ’59, and Jeff Marchant. The 2nd-place group shot a 65 (-7). Third place went to Daniel Maurin, Brett Patron, Paul Treuting, and Spencer Harris. They carded a 4-under 68.

Other Awards

The longest drive contest (Hole #11) was won by Kris Martinez ’02 (morning) and Tom Bartlett ’89 (afternoon). Kevin Stierwald ’85 (morning) and Mike North ’82 (afternoon) won the closest to the hole competition (Hole #7).
