“I am very happy with the play thus far,” head coach Owen Seiler ’75 said at the end of the 2017 fall season. “We are really excited about our newest player, freshman Si Holmes, who has shown a lot of talent. The returning starters and I are extremely impressed with how the younger players have improved from last year.”

There is no doubt that Coach Seiler remains satisfied with his team’s performance to start the 2018 spring season. Following a 5-0 run in the fall, the Jays remain unbeaten after winning their first four spring matches. Seniors and returning starters Grayson Glorioso, J.T. Holmes, Jake Kuebel, and Britton Khalaf make up the foursome who have experience leading and competing on a winning golf team. Last fall, head coach Owen Seiler ’75 named Glorioso, Holmes, and Kuebel as co-captains.

With two matches each week, the Jesuit team competes against district opponents in 9-hole, head-to-head matches. Two by two, the Blue Jay golfers continue to battle against each other in order to make the Top 5. The top five golfers will represent Jesuit at the district championship on April 16, at regionals on April 23, and at the two-day state tournament on April 30 and May 1. Until then the team looks to defend its undefeated season by outplaying local teams like Rummel, St. Augustine, Holy Cross, and their toughest rival, Brother Martin.

Jesuit’s 2017-18 golf team opened its spring season on Tuesday, March 6, with a dual match victory over Rummel at Timberlane Golf Club. Two days later on March 8, the Blue Jays (9-0) defeated St. Augustine at Bartholomew Golf Club. The next week on Tuesday and Thursday, they handled Brother Martin by 10 strokes and Holy Cross by nine. English Turn hosted both matches.

In their big win against Brother Martin on Tuesday, March 13, the non-starters paired up against St. Aug’s starters. While it was an unofficial match, a notable score of 37 (+1) came in from senior Addison Bui. Scores like these provide depth to the Blue Jay golf roster and increase intra-squad competition for the Top 5.
