Jesuit president, Fr. Anthony McGinn, S.J, announced the passing of Fr. Raymond Fitzgerald, S.J., who served as the school’s president from 2011-2014.

“The community of Jesuit High School mourns the passing of Fr. Raymond Fitzgerald, S.J., who served the Church as a member of the Jesuits for 36 years. Fr. Fitzgerald’s wisdom, sense of humor, and empathy for others made a significant impact wherever he served. I am personally grateful to him because his leadership and insight have left a mark on me, countless others, and Jesuit High School. Please remember him and his family in your prayers.”

Fr. Fitzgerald passed to eternal life on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Pavilion in Grand Coteau, LA. Fr. Fitzgerald stepped down as president in 2014 after he was diagnosed with ALS. Fitzgerald’s legacy includes the renovation of Jesuit’s Holy Name of Jesus Chapel and the creation of a strategic plan that paves the school’s way for decades to come. He was a member of Jesuit’s Class of 1976.

The funeral Mass for Fr. Fitzgerald will be celebrated on Saturday, September 24, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Grand Coteau, LA.
