Track and Field Finishes Fourth at District Meet

The track and field team had a strong showing at the District 9-5A track and field championship Wednesday, April 20, scoring 98 points and a fourth place finish. The Blue Jays were just three points behind Brother Martin and nine points behind Rummel.

Scoring points for the team were: Andrew Mieras in the shot put; Jarod Larriviere in the discus; Evan Poche in the triple jump; Richmond Wall in the 100 meter dash; Garrett Crumb in the 400 meter dash; Eli Sisung in the 1600 meter run; and the 4×100 meter relay team of Nick Slay, John Schmidt, Benton Moore, and Richmond Wall.

Several Blue Jays’ district performances earned them a chance to compete at the regional track meet by finishing fourth or higher. The Jays that will go on to compete at the regional meet on Wednesday, April 27 at Thibodaux High School are:

  • Malachi Hull, who placed fourth in the long jump and second in the triple jump
  • Mark Jaunet, second, and Denny McGinnis, third, in the Javelin
  • Michael Fitzsimmons, third, and Andrew Stapp, second, in the pole vault
  • The 4×200 meter relay team of Nick Slay, John Schmidt, Richmond Wall, and Jandon Briscoe finished third
  • Reed Meric, second in the 800 meter run
  • The 4×400 meter relay team of Nick Slay, Max Bell, Reed Meric, and Garrett Crumb finished second
  • Jandon Briscoe, first in both the 200 and 400 meter dash
