In blustery Scotland-like conditions at Lakewood on Tuesday, March 8, two teams of Blue Jay golfers finished nine holes of competition with split results.

The Jays defeated Holy Cross, 167-177, but dropped its first match of the 2015-16 season to Brother Martin, 168-166.

“The weather conditions accounted for high scores,” said Coach Owen Seiler ’75, who said the winds played havoc on just about every hole. “I wanted to allow some of our younger players to gain experience in competition and I’m glad that they were able to compete. It will certainly help them down the road.

The simultaneous dual matches came about because the Jesuit – Holy Cross competition had been scheduled for Thursday, March 10. But predictions of severe weather prompted a schedule change and the match with the Tigers was moved up to Tuesday.

Against Holy Cross, the Jays posted the following scores: senior Grant Glorioso 35, sophomores J.T. Holmes 43 and Jack Volenweider 49, and senior Brett Hocke 40.

Against Brother Martin, the Jays posted the following scores: junior Nolan Lambert 39, sophomore Grayson Glorioso 43, freshman Jackson Maniscalco 42, and senior Cameron Kaupp 44.

Jesuit is scheduled to return to the greens on Tuesday, March 15 against John Curtis.
