The sailing team boasted a solid performance, winning the Monk Smith Regatta held at Bay Waveland Yacht Club on Saturday, Oct. 11. Six high schools were in attendance, sailing 15 boats and four races. The Blue Jays placed in first and seventh places overall.

The winning Jesuit boat was skippered by junior William Breaux and crewed by freshman William Nance for three races and by sophomore Connor Housey for the last race. Jesuit’s second boat, skippered by freshman Robert Argote and crewed by Housey and pre-freshman Nick Hays, placed seventh. The regatta was Argote and Hays’ first high school showing.

“I thought they did very well, and improved drastically throughout the day,” said coach Charlie Singer. “Overall, it was a fun day of racing with gorgeous weather to compliment. These regattas… provide great opportunities for everybody to get out and sail in new interesting venues, and compete in a fleet and setting that is more competitive and larger.”

The sailing team returns to the water this weekend when they compete in the Jerry Ellis, Jr. Regatta in Biloxi on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18 and 19.
