The Blue Jay wrestling team took second place at this weekend’s Jesuit Invitational. It was the first varsity tournament hosted by Jesuit since 2006.

Individual placers were as follows:
Tournament champions: Senior Jordan Giewat (126 lbs); Junior Eli Larriviere (145 lbs); Senior William Rosevalley (160 lbs); and Junior Paul Treuting (182 lbs).

2nd place finishers: Sophomore Luke Eccles (120 lbs); Junior Nathan Koenig (152 lbs); Sophomore DJ Ferrier (170 lbs); Senior Gregory Bohn (182 lbs); and Junior Thomas Arseneaux (195 lbs)

3rd place finishers: Sophomore Sal De Matteo (126 lbs); Junior Andrew Fugetta (145 lbs); and Sophomore Jack Grady (160 lbs)

Standout sophomores DJ Ferrier and Jack Grady, who placed second and third, respectively, showed real promise. Head Coach Sheridan Moran says he’s glad to have the tournament back on campus and hopes it will continue to grow, pulling more out-of-state teams in to compete.

“Although it’s a smaller tournament, the quality of the matches was very high,” Coach Moran said. He added that the inclusion of a steak dinner kept the coaches in good spirits as well.

The Blue Jays return to action when they head to St. Paul’s in Covington for a meet against the Wolves on Thursday, November 17.
