Seniors Jack Hebert and Jimmy Mickler Are Honored by National Football Foundation

Seniors Jimmy Mickler and Jack Hebert were among 32 student-football players honored by the National Football Foundation at the 2014 Scholar Athlete Awards Luncheon

Seniors Jimmy Mickler and Jack Hebert were among 32 student-football players honored by the National Football Foundation at the 2014 Scholar Athlete Awards Luncheon.

The National Football Foundation honored seniors Jack Hebert and Jimmy Mickler on Wednesday, April 9, at the organization’s 2014 Scholar Athlete Awards Luncheon. The event, which was held at the Hilton Riverside, is sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Hebert was one of four student-athletes selected to receive a $10,000 scholarship from the NFF.

Hebert has yet to decide where he will go to college. Mickler is expected to attend Louisiana State University in the fall.

Hebert, who has a 4.45 GPA, was an all-district defensive end for the Blue Jays. He also participated in basketball, track, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Peer Support, Jesuit’s Big Brother/Little Brother program and served as an elected representative of the senior class.

Mickler was an all-district linebacker. His current GPA is 4.24. He also participated in National Honor Society, Campus Ministry, and Jesuit’s Big Brother/Little Brother program.

Both Blue Jays served as football team captains.

Before recognizing 32 student-athletes from across metro New Orleans, organizers presented Jesuit alumnus Dennis Lauscha ’87 with the group’s Distinguished American award. Lauscha became president of the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans in 2012. He’s been a member of the Saints organization for 16 years.

The NFF honored Peter Finney, Sr. ’45 with the Distinguished American award in 2003 and John Petitbon ’48 in 1979.

Among those attending the 2014 event were principal Peter Kernion ’90, athletic director Dave Moreau, head football coach Wayde Keiser ’78, defensive coordinator Troy Baglio, offensive coordinator Joe Chango, receivers coach Gino Giambelluca, social studies chairman Dan DiRosa ’81, alumni director Mat Grau ’68, and Tom Bagwill, who serves as Jesuit’s director of institutional advancement.
