Jesuit Rugby Captures South Regional Title


Blue Jays line up for a scrum at the Rugby Regional Tournament
this past weekend in Tennessee. Congratulations to the
Jesuit rugby team for successfully defending their South Regional Title
by defeating teams from Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia .
The Jays have won this title in 2005, 2007, and now 2008.
Jesuit now travels to the National Rugby Tournament in Pittsburgh, PA.

Before Rain Suspends Tournament Play, Jesuit Rugby Cages Shaw Eagles, 62-0


Despite the Eagle draped around his waist, senior Ian Wisecarver advances
the ball down the field for Jesuit. The Jays dominated the Shaw Eagles,
62-0, in the first game of the state tournament Saturday afternoon.
Tournament play was suspended when the rains moved in.

Blue Jay Rugby Rolls Past Crusaders, 47-0

Jesuit maintained their undefeated record with a win over Brother Martin
last Thursday, 47-0. Tries were scored by Michael Bordes (2),
Will Just, Drew Robins, Joey Rolf, Etienne Rene, and Lee Farrell.
Michael Weber made six of seven conversions.

Jesuit Rugby Sports an Undefeated Record

Jesuits A-side rugby team remains undefeated this season including wins over teams from Louisiana, Texas, and Tennessee in the Cade (Louisiana) Tournament. This past weekend, Jesuit A-side defeat St. Thomas High (Houston) A-side, 19-0; and Jesuit
B-side defeated St. Thomas B-side,17-14.

Blue Jays scoring for Jesuit this past weekend include the following athletes: Thomas Drewes, David Gonczi (2), Drew Robins (2), and Billy Wright.

Jesuit Rugby Team Captures Fifth Consecutive State Championship


Junior Will Just moves a Brother Martin Crusader out of the way
during the state rugby championship game Sunday.

The Jesuit rugby team competed in the Louisiana State High School Rugby Tournament this past Sunday, April 15, and were named state champions for the fifth year in a row. This year, the Blue Jays secured their title based on tournament points.

Six Blue Jays were named to the all-state rugby team, which will travel to Boulder, Colorado, to compete in the national high school championship.  These athletes include seniors Colin Hosli, Andrew Worrell, David Carr, and James Gonczi and juniors Thomas Drewes and Michael Bilalis.

The Blue Jay rugby team will play on April 28 and 29 at the Gretna Pitch in the High School Rugby Regionals Championship.

Blue Jays Tackle the Raiders

The Jesuit Rugby team won its two matches against the Rummel Raiders Wednesday afternoon at the Gretna Pitch.

Jesuit (Side A) defeated Rummel, 20-12. Tries were scored by juniors Ian Wisecarver, Kyle Heidingsfelder, Thomas Drewes, and Michael Bordes. Senior James Gonzi made the only successful conversion.

Jesuit (Side B) defeated Rummel, 17-0. Tries were scored by juniors Michael Redmann,  Nick Janzen, and senior Matt Gasson. Junior Corey Schexnaildre made the only successful conversion.

The Jays will be back in action this Staurday, February 10 at the Gretna Pitch against the Episcopal School of Acadiana. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 PM.

Rugby Opens Season with Victory Over Br. Martin, 44-12

The Blue Jay Rugby Team defeated Brother Martin, 44-12, at the Gretna Pitch, Sunday, January 28.
 
 
Tries were made by Michael Bordes, Kyle Heidingsfelder, Thomas Drewes, Andrew Worrel, Alex Molina, and James Gonzi.  James Gonzi added to the score by converting a couple of kicks.
 
The team will be back in action against the Rummel Raiders on Wednesday, February 7 at the Gretna Pitch. Kickoff is slated for 4 PM.

 


Patrick Neylon, Sebastian Holley, Connor Degan, Spencer Fossier,
and Billy Wright are ready for rugby practice to begin.
