 These seniors of the Class of 2013 are honored for their academic achievements. The group consists of 26 National Merit Semifinalists, two National Achievement Semifinalists, and one National Hispanic Scholar.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recognized 26 seniors from Jesuit High School’s Class of 2013 as semifinalists in the annual Merit Scholarship Competition. Senior Peyton Fine had a perfect score of 240. An additional 20 seniors received recognition as “Commended” scholars. The NMSC recognizes academically talented students throughout the United States and conducts nationwide academic scholarship programs. Two seniors — Ernest Philip Legier III and Michael Anthony Sinegar, Jr. (who is also named as a National Merit Semifinalist) — were recognized by The National Achievement Scholarship Program, an academic competition established in 1964 to acknowledge outstanding African American high school students. African American students can qualify for recognition and be honored as Semifinalists or Finalists in both the National Merit program and the National Achievement Program, but can receive only one monetary award from the NMSC. One Jesuit senior, Zachary Noah Lannes, was recognized by The National Hispanic Recognition Program. Established in 1983 by the College Board, this program provides national recognition for Hispanic students based on their PSAT scores and identifies them for post secondary institutions. The Class of 2012 produced 32 National Merit Scholars: Matthew Anjier, Evan Arceneaux, Andre Barrett, Taylor Billings, Jason Britsch, Zachary Carmello, Michael Ceraso, Blake Cookmeyer, Christian Debuys, Keith Delaune, Brennan Dorsey, Darcy Guo, Adam Haydel, Christopher Hazlaris, Alexander Hebert, Nicholas Hourguettes, Adam Kehoe, Dylan Kennedy, Mark Madura, Javier Molina, Jonathan Nguyen, Jacob Pritt, Jeffery Sanches, Alexander Sherry, Benjamin Sketchler, Travis Smith, Cristian Soler, Collin Stansberry, Zachary Tosh, Alexander Villarejos, Stuart Wilson, and Matthew Young. Todd Jacquet is a National Achievement Semifinalist. The National Achievement Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 to acknowledge outstanding African American high school students. Four seniors were also honored as National Hispanic Scholars, including Nicholas Hourgettes, James Puente, Jeffrey Sanches, Alexander Villarejos. In Class of 2011, 28 Honored as National Merit Semifinalists, Including One Blue Jay with a Perfect Score Jesuit High School has 28 National Merit Scholars in the Class of 2011.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recognized 28 seniors from Jesuit High School’s Class of 2011, including one Blue Jay with a perfect score, as semifinalists in the annual Merit Scholarship Competition. An additional 15 seniors received recognition as “Commended” scholars. No other high school in Louisiana has as many National Merit Semifinalists as Jesuit, which also ranks among the top Catholic secondary schools in the United States, according to data provided by the NMSC. James Burvant, who is the son of Robert and Nancy Burvant of New Orleans, earned a perfect score of 240. Class of 2009 Produces 35 National Merit Semifinalists Jesuit High School has 35 National Merit Semifinalists in the Class of 2009.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recognized 35 seniors from Jesuit High School as semifinalists in the 2009 Merit Scholarship Competition, representing the largest number of honorees from a Louisiana school and the largest number of semifinalists among Catholic schools in the U.S., according to data provided by the NMSC.
Jesuit’s honorees make up 15% of Louisiana’s 227 National Merit Semifinalists who come from 54 schools. The outstanding performance of these 35 Blue Jays ranks Jesuit among the top 30 public and private high schools in the United States.
