Team Jesuit Wrestles to a Second Place Finish at the 2013 LHSAA State Tournament at the Pontchartrain Center
Seniors Mitch Capella (113) and Manny Armour (195) Capture Individual State Championships
The Jesuit wrestling team finished as runners-up at the LHSAA State Tournament held February
15-16 at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner. Seniors Mitch Capella (seeded #1 in the 113-lb.
weight class) and Manny Armour (seeded #1 in the 195-lb. class) were the only two Blue Jays who came away with individual championships. Several other Jays finished near the top.

Jesuit wrestlers gave it their all over the weekend at the 2013 LHSAA State Wrestling Tournament, held at the Pontchartrain Center. The Blue Jays finished second to Brother Martin. Individual championships were picked up by seniors Mitch Capella (113) and Manny Armour (195). Several other Blue Jays finished in the top six in their respective weight classes.

Blue Jays Lurking in Second Place as Preliminaries End at the 2013 LHSAA State Wrestling Tournament
Senior Zac Creel, seeded #3 in the 285-lb. class, is one of five Blue Jays who
survived the preliminary and semifinal rounds to make it all the way to the
final matches at the LHSAA State Wrestling Tournament. The finals are
underway at the Pontchartrain Center.

The Blue Jays have their work cut out for them as they head into the second day of the LHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner on Saturday, February 16. After preliminaries, the Blue Jays scored 154 points, 24 points behind first place Brother Martin (with 178) and only 5.5. points ahead of third place Catholic High of Baton Rouge. Rummel has 141 and St. Paul’s score is 128.5.
Five Blue Jays will be wrestling for individual state titles: senior Mitch Capella (113), junior Efosa Eboigbe, Jr. (145), senior Gabe Grush (182), senior Manny Armour (195), and senior Zac Creel (285).
The finals begin at 5 p.m. today (Saturday, February 16) at the Pontchartrain Center.

Good luck to Jesuit’s varsity wrestling team as they head into the two day LHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner beginning Friday, February 15 and ending on Saturday night, February 16.
The state tournament consists of four sessions, two sessions each day. On Friday, session one begins at 9 a.m., while session two will start at 5 p.m. On Saturday, February 16, session three opens at 8 a.m., while session four is slated to commence at 6 p.m.
Tickets for each session is $10; however, an all-session pass may be purchased for $35. Tickets may purchased at the Pontchartrain Center or on-line at Ticket Master.
Jesuit seniors Manny Armour (195) and Mitch Capella (113) are seeded number one in their respective weight class.

Congratulaions to the Jesuit varsity wrestling squad for their second place finish at the City Wrestling Championship held at Holy Cross High School over the weekend. Jesuit finished with 199 point behind the first place Brother Martin squad who finished with 275.5 points.
Congratulations to Nicky Charles (106) and senior Gage Grush (182) for taking for first place in their individual weight class.

Wrestling Falls to Crusaders in Hard-Fought District Championship, 54-21

Four Blue Jays’ recorded match victories. Senior Mitch Capella (113), senior Gage Grush (182), and senior Manny Armour (195) each won their matches via pins, while junior Efosa Eboigbe (145) recorded the fourth win by edging Crusaders senior Patrick Hoppe, 1-0.
The Blue Jays return to the mat on Saturday, January 26 at 1:15 p.m. when they take on De La Salle at home.

Blue Jays Finish Undefeated at Weekend Meet in Dallas

The Jesuit varsity wrestling team travelled to the Dallas area this past weekend for the Grapevine Duals and returned home with the first place plaque. Twenty teams from Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas competed.
The following wrestlers went undefeated in their matches: Seniors Mitch Capella (113),
Gage Grush (182), and Manny Armour (195), junior Efosa Eboigbe (145), and sophomore
Ben D’Antonio (120).
Other Blue Jays who helped bring home the hardware include seniors Zac Creel (235), Christian Queyrouze (160), Jimmy Brown (170), juniors Nicky Charles (106) and Gaston Eymard (152), and sophomores Will Lafranca (126), Andrew Russo (132), Freeman Matthews (138), and Dominic Carmello (220).
The Blue Jays will travel to Baton Rouge for the Louisiana Classic on January 18. Jesuit’s only home meet of the year will be against district rival Brother Martin on Wednesday, January 23.

Dual Meet, 42-19
|Blue Jays Trumped the Tigers by 23 Points|
Senior Jimmy Brown pinned Tiger Nick Nugen at the 4:27 mark. The Blue Jays posted a strong showing against Holy Cross on Friday (December 14) in the Jesuit gymnasium with a 42-19 victory over the Tigers.

Blue Jay Wrestlers Travel to Oklahoma to Compete in
The Wrestling team took to the road last weekend to participate in the Mid-America Nationals, an annual invitational tournament held in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The team finished 10th overall, out of a field of 27.

Wrestling Opens District Play with a Dominating Win Over Chalmette, 42-12
Freshman Guy Patron pins Chalmette Owl Ian Hogan in the Dual Meet at Chalmette High School on Thursday (December 5) night. The Blue Jays handily beat the district foes, 42-12, in the Owls’ home gym. The team returns to the mat this weekend when they travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma to participate in the Mid-America Nationals.
