| Prospective Blue Jays Experience a Slice of Blue Jay Life at 5th Annual Blue & White Friday Night
The fifth annual Blue & White Friday Night attracted about 600 boys to Jesuit High School, the largest crowd in the history of the event, on Friday, October 26, 2012. The prospective students came alone, in pairs, small clusters of classmates, and large groups from several schools. These prospective students, many of whom are in 5th, 6th, and 7th grade at schools across the metro area, were thoroughly entertained — and fed — during their two hour visit during which they mingled with current Blue Jays and were treated to an excellent sampling of all things Jesuit. The young guests were dropped off in the school yard and escorted into the auditorium (above) by Blue Jay ambassadors.

Jesuit Is the School That Will Change Your Life!
Lunchtime in the Traditions Courtyard during Welcome Week
Jesuit High School, an anchor in the heart of Mid-City, provides an environment that reflects the values of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola and the long tradition of Jesuit education. Education is not an end in itself. It is a means to a greater end -- our knowing, loving, and serving God.
Jesuit’s goal is simple – to form "men for others," men of faith who are motivated by genuine Gospel charity; new men transformed by the message of Christ, who are open to their own time and to the future; leaders who have acquired in ways proportional to their age and maturity a way of life that is a proclamation of the love of Christ, of faith, and of justice.Jesuit students, along with the school’s 12,500 alumni, live by the motto Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam – For the Greater Glory of God. Jesuit is aware that it takes a special type of young man to accept the challenge that a Jesuit High School education offers. The advanced and regular college preparatory curricula provide a solid foundation and are designed to make students think.

A day at Jesuit entails more than just the classroom and homework. Interacting as a community is essential to the “Blue Jay experience.” Whether it is monthly Mass, morning assembly, pep rallies, lunch period, or involvement in any of the school’s 70-plus co-curricular activities, students at Jesuit participate together. The fraternal bond among all Blue Jays is evident by viewing one of the more popular features on Jesuit's web site: Jayson's Daily Wild Photo Archive. Teachers at Jesuit High School assume many important roles. Instructors, advisers, moderators, and coaches, they are mentors and role models for students. Of the 113 faculty members, 54 hold masters degrees and eight have doctorate degrees in their fields. Our faculty includes 29 women and seven Jesuits. Nearly one-third of our teachers have taught at Jesuit more than 10 years. All of our teachers are distinguished by a passion for teaching and their commitment to the formation of young people. In 165 years, no qualified young man has been refused admission to Jesuit because his family could not afford some or all of the tuition. Tuition was $7,400 for the 2011-12 year. Tuition for 2012-13 is $7,700 and still represents one of the lowest among private and Catholic high schools in the area. Certainly, there are challenges to ensure that Jesuit remains available to young men from all socio-economic strata. Not many schools can boast that their students live in 50 different zip codes in the New Orleans area. While Jesuit strives to keep its tuition at a level affordable to most families, financial assistance is available through Jesuit’s endowment. All aid is based on financial need and recipients participate in the school’s work/study program. Last year, more than $528,700 in financial aid was provided to numerous Jesuit families. The school flourishes because of the generosity of its alumni and parents, who recognize the importance of a Jesuit education. The 2009-10 year marks the third consecutive time that Jesuit alumni contributed more than $1 million to their annual giving drive, known as the Living Endowment Fund (LEF). Likewise, the Parents’ Annual Giving (PAG) drive exceeded $1 million in donations from 93% of Jesuit’s parents who participated in this voluntary fundraising effort. The LEF and PAG drives raise funds that help bridge the gap between the amounts that Jesuit charges for tuition and the actual cost of educating a Blue Jay. “Every student who walks through the doors of Jesuit High School possesses unique, God-given gifts,” said Michael Giambelluca, Jesuit’s principal and a 1982 graduate. “Through our comprehensive educational program, Jesuit students nurture and refine their gifts, whether they are spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, or social. And despite a challenging curriculum in a structured, disciplined environment, our young men are genuinely happy. Blue Jays possess a unique sense of loyalty and affection for their school.” The total result of the Jesuit experience is to bring each student closer to the destiny that God has in store for him, a destiny that calls him to be a man of faith and a man for others. For all these reasons, and more, Jesuit is the school that will change a young man’s life.
