Coach Bio:
Head Coach Sam Dozier Sam Dozier was named head coach of Jesuit’s varsity baseball team on May 17, 2005. He brings an extensive baseball background to Jesuit with 22 years of high school coaching experience. Dozier recently completed his fifth year at Jesuit High School as the freshman head coach of football and baseball.
Included in a four-year coaching stint at River Oaks Academy were three state playoff appearances and a 1986 state semi-final finish. Dozier then served as head coach at St. Martin’s for the next 14 seasons, leading the Saints to numerous playoff appearances.
In 1991 his team captured the 2A State title with a perfect 23-0 record. He was also selected “Coach of the Year” four times in his career.
As a player Dozier was a three-year varsity starter at catcher while attending Archbishop Shaw High School, serving as team captain in his senior season. At Tulane University, Dozier started three years behind the plate, receiving several honors along the way.
In 1979 he was a member of the Metro Conference Championship team, while in 1980 Dozier was the recipient of the Milton Retif Award, emblematic of the “most improved player.” In his senior campaign Dozier served as a team captain, while being selected to the mythical All-Metro Conference team.
Dozier graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Tulane in 1981. Until his selection as head coach for varsity baseball, Dozier served as chair of Jesuit’s Health and Physical Education Department.
Dozier is 47-years-old and a native of New Orleans. He and his wife Edie reside in Gretna with their two children, Matthew, 18 and Nicole, 15.
