Under Blue Skies and a Warm Sun, Blue Jay Golfers Return to City Park North for Annual Tourney in 2009
Jesuit alumni and their guests gather under the Pavillion along Filmore Avenue across from the old City Park North Course to enjoy hot boiled crawfish and spicey jambalaya following an afternoon of birdies, pars, and bogies amidst fellowship and camaraderie in the annual Jesuit Golf Classic on Friday, June 12, 2009.
Swingin' in the Rain: Jesuit Golfers Drenched by Showers that Slice Through Audubon Park's Course at 2008 Jesuit Golf Tournament
With thunderstorms gathering steam on the horizon, this “eightsome” prepares to tee off on the 18th hole of Audubon Park Golf Course on Friday the 13th. Minutes later, the skies opened up, drenching 125 Blue Jay golfers and rendering the course one giant water hazard. To protect the course from damage, Audubon Park’s golf officials closed the links to further tournament play.
And that is how this chapter of the annual Jesuit Golf Classic closed -- a wet, soggy, splashy washout. However, it was not a total washout.
Blue Jays who endured the wet conditions have a “rain check” courtesy of the Audubon pro shop. Jays may play a free 18-hole round (with cart) anytime between Tuesday through Friday before June 13, 2009. (Sorry, but officials cannot offer a weekend tee time.)
Blue Jay golfers should call the pro shop (212-5290) to reserve their tee time, mentioning they played in the Jesuit tournament that was rained out. The pro shop has the list of Blue Jay golfers who will be asked to sign next to their name when checking in.
Jesuit thanks all Blue Jays for their understanding and for participating in the tournament, the first to be canceled by weather in several years. Jesuit also appreciates and thanks its sponsors for their generous in-kind contributions to the tournament.
Golfers who have any suggestions or comments that might be helpful in planning next year’s event are invited to send an email to:alumninews@jesuitnola.org.
