2008 LEF Drive Breaks into the Million Dollar Atmosphere On the final day of the drive, Friday, July 11, donations from alumni pushed the LEF beyond $1 million for the first time ever.
Blue Jay alumni sent the 2008 LEF past the $1 million mark for the first time in the drive’s 29-year history. The million-dollar milestone was reached in the final hours on the last day of the drive, which was Friday, July 11. Preliminary figures look like this: 3,315 pledges for $1,050,626 were made; 3,038 donors contributed $1,002,793. This tops last year’s drive’s total by more than $134,000. “This is a tremendous accomplishment by our dedicated alumni,” says Fr. Anthony McGinn, S.J., president of Jesuit High School. “I extend my sincere appreciation and thanks to each of our alums who donated to this important fund. I also thank our parents for their generosity to the PAG drive.” Jesuit parents set a new record with 933 donations totaling $1,202,929 on the 2008 PAG drive’s final day. The 2008 PAG campaign is the fifth consecutive parent’s drive in which donations exceeded $1 million.
If you have an open pledge in either the LEF or PAG drives, your donation is still needed.

Swingin' in the Rain: Jesuit Golfers Drenched by Showers that Slice Through Audubon Park's Course
With thunderstorms gathering steam on the horizon, this “eightsome” prepares to tee off on the 18th hole of Audubon Park Golf Course on Friday the 13th. Minutes later, the skies opened up, drenching 125 Blue Jay golfers and rendering the course one giant water hazard. To protect the course from damage, Audubon Park’s golf officials closed the links to further tournament play.
2008 Jesuit Golf Classic Photo Gallery And that is how this chapter of the annual Jesuit Golf Classic closed -- a wet, soggy, splashy washout. However, it was not a total washout.
Blue Jays who endured the wet conditions have a “rain check” courtesy of the Audubon pro shop. Jays may play a free 18-hole round (with cart) anytime between Tuesday through Friday before June 13, 2009. (Sorry, but officials cannot offer a weekend tee time.)
Blue Jay golfers should call the pro shop (212-5290) to reserve their tee time, mentioning they played in the Jesuit tournament that was rained out. The pro shop has the list of Blue Jay golfers who will be asked to sign next to their name when checking in.
Jesuit thanks all Blue Jays for their understanding and for participating in the tournament, the first to be canceled by weather in several years. Jesuit also appreciates and thanks its sponsors for their generous in-kind contributions to the tournament.
Golfers who have any suggestions or comments that might be helpful in planning next year’s event are invited to send an email to: alumninews@jesuitnola.org.

Some 225 Jesuit alumni were on hand to congratulate seniors at the event. Jesuit dads sat with sons, uncles with nephews, and there were a few three-generation Blue Jay families.
Featured speaker Alan Donnes '79 served up the right concoction for the occasion, mixing his dry sense of humor with serious reflections about his kidney disease, his father's inspiration and love, and how Jesuit prepared him to meet the challenges of life.
