School History

In 1847 the Fathers of the Society of Jesus founded the College of the Immaculate Conception on Baronne and Common Streets to create an outstanding institution for the secondary education of young men.

In 1926 Jesuit High School moved to Carrollton and Banks -- The Avenue of Champions. For 160 years Jesuit has continued the rich tradition of academic excellence that has been the hallmark of Jesuit education.

Five Years Later, Jesuit Remembers Hurricane Katrina

It’s been five years since Hurricane Katrina left her mark on our city and on our lives. Some may argue that it’s time to move on from this seminal event.

    And perhaps they are right.

But Jesuit’s reflection on this fifth anniversary probes deeper into the experience. Below, visitors will find the facts, the figures, and the photos about Katrina the storm and the flood which changed our lives. Remembering these details is essential to avoid repeating them.

But there lies a more profound meaning that individuals gain when they stop and reflect upon what has come and what is yet to be. These reflections are the touchstones by which we may measure our successes and shortcomings.

To this end, this remembrance also includes a web page which incorporates Jesuit alumni and educators’ commentary and actions faced in Katrina’s wake. These stories challenge and inspire visitors to dedicate or rededicate themselves to turning the tragedy of August 29th, 2005, into personal and community success stories.

It has been five years since Hurricane Katrina. Let’s take this opportunity not to wallow in memories grounded in sorrow or fear but to reflect upon our efforts and to renew our commitment to ourselves, our community, and—most importantly—our faith to finish the job we started only five years ago.
