The Blue Jay Writers Earn Silver Scribe Awards

Staff writers and editors of The Blue Jay competed last weekend at the 34th annual Tom Bell Silver Scribe Competition. The Blue Jay journalists joined more than 50 students from six area schools for the yearly high school journalism competition, which is sponsored by Loyola University and the Press Club of New Orleans.

Senior Evan Shea, editor-in-chief, won the first place prize in the Sports Writing category, for a piece that the judges called "heartfelt and compelling" and which showed "fresh ideas." Shea also won the second place award in Column Writing and an honorable mention in both the Feature Writing and Critical Review categories.
