1953 Addition A Monument To Vision and Caring | | Fifty years ago, September 13, 1953, Archbishop Joseph Francis Rummel officiated the blessing of what we today call the 1953 Addition. That part of the building houses the Chapel of the North American Martyrs, the auditorium, the band hall, the cafeteria, and a number of classrooms. For the past 50 years, the chapel has been the setting of many school Masses as well as the weddings and funerals of Blue Jay alumni. The auditorium has provided the stage for many great plays and concerts.
In a speech during Friday's morning assembly, Father McGinn looked back on the Jesuit of 1953 and expressed gratitude to three Jesuits who were shaping the school at that time: Fr. Thomas Carter, Fr. Laurence O'Neill, and Fr. Claude Stallworth. Father McGinn explained that part of the legacy of those men is that their work reminds us of the reality that we are constantly building for future generations. Father reminds everyone in the Jesuit High School community that, because short-term motives produce poor decisions, we must take the long-term view. |
