Wednesday, July 30, 2008 For Future Generations...  Jesuit is transferring over 160 years of history into electronic form to preserve the tradition and the spirit of the Blue Jays for future generations. Friday, July 18, 2008 Summer Cleaning...  You have heard of spring cleaning, but what about summer cleaning? Friday afternoon, the administrative office for the principal and the assistant principals experienced a thorough cleaning in preparation for the new school year. Monday, July 21, 2008 Classroom Enhancements Continue...  Workers from Creative Presentations install an overhead projector and Sympodium in a classroom on the third floor Monday. One of the many summer technological projects includes upgrading the few classrooms that lacked this helpful educational tool.
Friday, July 18, 2008 Windows Upgrade Done Right...  Renovations in St. Ignatius Hall continue on schedule. Friday morning, workers busily “upgrade the windows” in the room. Soon, a fire escape and new flooring among other amenities will be added to this meeting space.
Wednesday, July 16, 2008 Electric Avenue...  Electrical service to most of the school building was shut down during the morning Tuesday, while service crews replaced a pole on Banks Street. Power resumed after three in the afternoon.
Monday, July 14, 2008 Enriched Blue Jays...  Incoming pre-freshmen and freshmen Blue Jays who participated in the Jesuit Enrichment Program gathered for a group photo Friday morning in Traditions Courtyard. Students involved in this six-week, intensive academic program participated (by invitation) in a curriculum designed to enhance a student’s academic skills in either math, English, or both disciplines.
Friday, July 11, 2008 An Elevating Experience...  Fathers Norman O’Neal, S.J. (left), and Nick Schiro, S.J., cut the ribbon that officially opens the new Administrative Building elevator. The Jesuit community, whose residence is located on the fifth and the sixth floor of the Administrative Building, is particularly happy about the new elevator. The elevator has been out of service since January to repair damage from Katrina and to bring the equipment up to code. During the renovations, the Jesuits have been getting a good cardiovascular workout in the stairwell.

Jesuit Offensive Coordinator Chris LaMothe meticulously reviews last year’s tapes and carefully plans for the upcoming football season. The Jays formally open football camp in less than a month-- on Friday, August 8th.
Friday, July 4, 2008 Rally Around the Flag...  Cadets from Jesuit’s MCJROTC program present the colors at a football game this past school year. Jesuit wishes a happy Fourth of July to the entire Blue Jay community and honors the devotion of those alumni who have dedicated their lives to the service of their country.
Wednesday, July 2, 2008 Early Bird Gets the Cheer...  Starting before 6 AM, Jesuit cheerleaders practice in the gymnasium in preparation for camp and the upcoming school year. When the Wild Photographer passed the gym Wednesday morning at 7:30, the squad still displayed their Blue Jay Spirit.
Monday, June 30, 2008 I'll Take the Window Seat...  Renovations to Ignatius Hall and the Administrative Building continued Monday morning. While workmen remove the old windows from Ignatius Hall, masonry men go on with their task of replacing lintels and repairing the brick work. Summer projects to maintain and enhance the Jesuit campus moves slowly but surely towards completion. Check back to the website for the latest developments.

Wednesday, June 25, 2008 Happy Campers...  Blue Jay football players smile upon their return from lineman camp at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. For four days, these athletes studied and performed various techniques to prepare for the upcoming football season.
Monday, June 23, 2008 ’93 in the Shade...  The Class of ’93 celebrated their 15th year reunion with two events this past weekend, including a stag social in the Student Commons on Saturday evening. It is customary to have a group photo of the reunion made as a memento. As twilight descended and members of the Class of ’93 assembled under the Mary Statue in the Traditions Courtyard to take a group photo, Jayson’s Wild Photographer surprised a few Blue Jays by snapping this “test” shot. Friday, June 20, 2008 The Stillness of Summer...  Friday afternoon, the trees in Traditions Courtyard stand alone in the warm summer sun. During the school year, the courtyard bustles with students meeting friends, playing ball, or sitting in the shade waiting for a ride.

Wednesday morning at 7, Blue Jays, along with Coach Corey Bordelon, were jogging on Will Clark Field to begin conditioning drills in preparation for the upcoming football season. Visitors to Carrollton and Banks may see athletes from various sport utilizing campus faciltites throughout the day during the summer.

Jesuit athletic director (and former head baseball coach) Dave Moreau talks with Fox 8 sports reporter Eric Richey on Monday afternoon about Michael Hollander, who played baseball at Jesuit before graduating in 2004. As a member of LSU’s baseball team, Hollander is playing in the NCAA College World Series in Omaha. The interview with Coach Moreau was part of a story about Hollander that aired Monday evening during the Fox 8 sports show.

After the classroom experience, these drivers get behind the wheel of a car for some road time before completing the class and obtaining their operator’s license.
Monday, June 9, 2008 Basketball Camp Continues...  Jesuit basketball camp continues for a second week with a biddy basketball camp from Monday through Friday in the Jesuit gymnasium. Next week, a competition camp will be offered.
Friday, June 6, 2008 Ignatius Gets a Facelift...  To be specific, that’s St. Ignatius Hall on the third floor of the administrative wing. Work to renovate the meeting room began this week. During the summer, Jesuit’s I.T. department keeps the Blue Jays on the cutting edge of technology by updating the equipment on campus. Wednesday, April 23, 2008 Literary Lunch...  Seniors in Mr. Prados’s English V class met in the Student Commons for a literary lunch Wednesday afternoon. Lunch items on the menu reflected some of the works, characters, and authors studied by the Blue Jays in his class. Included on the bill of fare were the delectable and readable Caesar’s Salad, Callanwolde Crab and Corn Chowder, Papa John’s Papa John’s pizza, and Henry Wingo’s boiled shrimp (all from The Prince of Tides); Raising Cane’s electric chicken (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep); Hearts of Darkness (chocolate covered strawberries--from Heart of Darkness); A Clockwork Orange soda and synthamesc cake (A Clockwork Orange); Anton Chigurh cookies and No Country for Ropa Vieja (No Country for Old Men); and Prince Hamlet’s Popeyes’ (Hamlet). The baked Alaska didn’t really have a literary reference; however, the class agreed it was very good.

Friday, March 28, 2008 Bazaar Sales(men)!  As the deadline to turn in Bazaar raffle tickets approached on Friday, Blue Jays hightailed their sales up to St. Ignatius Hall where a dozen or so volunteer moms accepted their envelopes in between tearing tens of thousands of tickets off stubs. One of those lucky tickets (maybe one in the photo below?) will be the winner of the $5,000 raffle at the Bazaar on Sunday. Freshman Stephen Hayman (above left) and sophomore Daniel Hurtado sold all of their tickets, and like most other Blue Jays who did likewise, they will be rewarded with a holiday on Monday.

The philelectic society will offer a sneak preview of the play during the Blue Jay Bazaar on Sunday, March 30. Previews will be staged at 12:30 and 3 PM in the auditorium. Admission is free!

Billy Dardis, S.J., is ensconced in the comfy driver’s seat on Jesuit’s new and all-purpose, all terrain, can-do-anything-but-teach, monster tractor. This latest tool to the maintenance arsenal is able to do just about everything your Tonka toy tractor could do when you were playing in mud. The mean machine can cut grass and push, pull, and move heavy objects, among other things. Wednesday, March 12, 2008 Let's Play "Jeopardy!"  Blue Jays in Mr. Wagner’s Computer Literacy II are prepping for their third quarter exam by playing Jeopardy! Third quarter exams begin tomorrow and conclude next Tuesday. A student who misses a scheduled exam must make up his test next Wednesday, March 19.

Mr. Sal, the fruit and vegetable vendor at the corner of Carrollton and Banks, has bananas and apples and pretty much any thing else you might want that is healthy and reasonably priced. Monday, March 10, 2008 Celebrating St. Joseph...  Although a few days before the feast day, Blue Jays from the Italian Club set up a St. Joseph’s Day altar in the student commons Monday. The tradition of building the altar to St. Joseph began as far back as the Middle Ages in gratitude to St. Joseph for answering prayers for deliverance from famine.

The fair allows students to network with non-profit agencies looking for volunteers to work in their organizations. Starting in the second semester of their junior year and ending by the close of the first semester of their senior year, Blue Jays must have completed at least one hundred hours of community service.

Tuesday, February 12, 2008 Go Into the Light...  Inclement weather moving through New Orleans on Tuesday afternoon caused a power outage in the Mid-City area. The administration building on Banks Street and several classrooms along Carrollton Avenue were left in the dark for about an hour. At dismissal time, darkness cloaks the John C. Paquette, Jr. Hall as several Blue Jays hover near the principal’s office where emergency lights cast an eerie glow. At 3:15 p.m., power was restored as suddenly as it went out.

While Brother’s solution is certainly, well uh, pigeon-livered, let’s hope it works. After all, no one, especially Brother, wants to implement Plan B.

Friday, December 13, 2007 "Plane" Geometry...  Blue Jays from Leslie Merritt?s geometry classes participated in the annual paper airplane project. Taking advantage of the ideas studied in class, students put this knowledge to the test in the construction of their paper airplanes. Students? airplanes were judged on distance and accuracy.
Thursday, December 12, 2007 Men for Others...  Jesuit?s M.C.J.R.O.T.C. puts into action our school?s motto, Men for Others, with their work in this year?s Toys for Tots drive. Under the direction of the M.C.J.R.O.T.C., homerooms have been collecting toys to make Christmas a special occasion for those kids in need in the metropolitan area. For sophomores, their scores provide them a benchmark to determine where their strengths and weakness lie. For the juniors, like Stephen Seither, who is waiting to receive his forms from Jesuit college counselor Merrick Lyons, the test results will determine those students who will be consider as National Merit Scholars.

Thursday, November 8, 2007 The LONG and Short of It...  Blue Jays come in all shapes and sizes and are blessed with many different talents. This disproportion among Jesuit students creates the camaraderie that lasts long after leaving Carrollton and Banks. ABC-26 news anchor Liz Reyes interviews Mrs. Allison Stinchcomb, a math teacher at Jesuit High School who also happens to be the wife of Saints? offensive tackle Jon Stinchcomb. Ms. Reyes visited with Mrs. Stinchcomb at Jesuit as part of a series currently in production about the wives of Saints? football players. Look for the story about Mrs. Stinchcomb to air soon on ABC-26.

Wednesday, October 17, 2007 Exam Week Continues...  Ms. JoAnn Schexnayder tutors a few of her students Wednesday afternoon before her math exam tomorrow. Today, Blue Jays took a break from the exam schedule to participate in the national testing day. The PSAT, the test used to determine National Merit Finalists, was the primary test administered today. Tomorrow, the Jays return to the exam week grind which ends Friday for most students. Blue Jays who missed an exam will report at 8 Saturday morning for make-up exams.
Tuesday, October 16, 2007 Jays Find the Right Angle...  The two-man team of freshmen James Burvant (left) and Daniel Cooper took first place honors in geometry at the Baton Rouge High School Math Tournament this past Saturday. The Jays two-man team won in a four-man team event. Individually, in the geometry category, Daniel and James also finished first and second respectively.

Homerooms on each grade level compete in a student council sponsored contest to produce the best homecoming banner. Wednesday, October 3, 2007 Blue Jays End Another School Day  After the dismissal bell rings at 3 p.m. Blue Jays go to their lockers, retrieve books needed to complete their homework assignments, and, for some students as pictured above, head to bustling Banks Street where students walk to their parked cars or simply wait for a ride. For Jesuit athletes, the day continues as they cross Banks Street to the gym and the Roussel Building to prepare for practice. Regardless, the school day may be officially over; but the work is far from complete!

Thursday, August 22, 2007  Although it may appear freshman Jonathan Ciaccio is a participant in some illegal activity, in reality, he is purchasing his novel for his English II class. As the first week of school draws to a close, students like Jonathan are buying the necessary materials to succeed in class.

Friday, August 10, 2007  Jesuit summer camps come to a close... Jesuit soccer camp ended the summer camp season this year. Camp participants diligently worked in the August heat to enhance their field skills.
Thursday, August 9, 2007  Break time from the heat ... Jesuit football players are taking a break from a tough pratice on Will Clark Field. The Blue Jays will scrimmage Mandeville on Thursday, August 16 at Mandeville for 6 P.M.
Wednesday, August 8, 2007  With most of the concrete in place, the ?new? Jesuit school yard takes on the appearance of a slick runway. In the next few days, certain areas will be striped for parking. The work is expected to be finished by the time school begins.
Tuesday, August 7, 2007  Strike Up the Band! The Jesuit Marching Band is preparing for the 2007-2008 school year. Last week, the Blue Jays had pre-camp practice on Will Clark Field. This week, the band and the Jayettes are attending camp at Nichols State University.
Monday, August 6, 2007  Seniors Cullen Doody and Mark Correa enjoy a light moment with Fries, Virginia, residents Doris Akers and Frank Leagins while working at Mrs. Akers?s home on the service project trip to Appalachia. Twelve seniors and three teachers recently spent a week and a half assisting the needy in the impoverished area.
