Jesuit High School exists to foster in its students the competence, conscience, and compassion to be men of faith and men for others. At the heart of this mission is the teacher. The document The Profile of a Jesuit High School Teacher outlines the ideal characteristics of the Jesuit teacher. The Profile Award has been established to recognize excellence in teaching at Jesuit High School. Each "winner" received a check for $2,500 and a handsome plaque at the annual faculty-staff dinner held at the end of the school year. The Profile Selection Committee of five Jesuit High School personnel thanks those faculty members who submitted nominations in this, our inaugural year, of the Profile Award. The Selection Committee was deeply impressed by the great time and effort that so many faculty members had obviously spent carefully detailing and extolling the talents and activities of the nominees. The Committee was humbled by the worthiness of so many of the nominees. Although the Selection Committee could choose only 4 recipients of the Profile Award this year, the truth is that our faculty is rich with Profile-worthy teachers, many of whom were nominated this year. Based upon faculty nominations, the following have been selected as 2008 Profile of the Teacher Award winners: Andrew Schiro, Kathi Tomeny, Leslie Merritt, and Lary “Top” Abshire.
