On February 1st, two teams of Jesuit student attorneys competed in the Region 4 mock trial tournament held at the Jefferson Parish Courthouse in Gretna.  Thirteen teams participated in a mock criminal case involving a simple robbery. Jesuit entered two teams.  After two preliminary rounds, Jesuit’s younger team of attorneys, Dalton Haydel, Ian Mercer, Preston Rumney, and Asher Terrell, and  witnesses, Daniel Lee, Wade Rogers, Tucker Schibler, and Ben Tran advanced to the semi-final round held this past Friday.  In a very even contest, Jesuit lost to Haynes Academy, which ended up winning the tournament.

Also in the preliminary competition, Jesuit’s older team of attorneys, Michael Daly, Owen Ettinger, Michael Paul Fine, and Hunter Richardson, and witnesses, Ahmed Almoaswes, Jacob D’Amico, Caleb Walsh, and Ben Wombacher, performed admirably but did not advance after losing a split decision in the second round.  In individual awards Dalton Haydel was named best attorney, and Ben Wombacher was named best witness.

The team is coached by Brett Wise ’82, Mike Mentz ’74, and Jeffrey Hufft ’98.  Congratulations on a strong season, Mock Trial!
