Senior Frederick Junius takes tickets at the front of the line for breakfast at Grace at the Greenlight.

Over the course of the 2019-2020 school year, Jesuit will continue its partnership with Grace at the Greenlight, a non-profit organization that serves breakfast to the homeless in the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans. Grace at the Greenlight serves breakfast every day of the year, holidays included, at the Living Witness Church (1528 Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard). Volunteers from Jesuit will help serve the meal on more than 20 Wednesdays throughout the school year. On each of these Wednesdays, volunteers will meet at Jesuit at 6:00 a.m., travel in the school van to Living Witness Church, serve the meal, and return to Jesuit in time for homeroom.

Jesuit’s relationship with Grace at the Greenlight began last year, when groups of students served breakfast on over a dozen mornings. The Sodality, Student Council, and basketball, robotics, and quiz bowl teams all sent groups to serve meals. On other days, the meals were served by groups of individual Blue Jays answering the call to serve.

Students and faculty are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to serve the neediest in our community. To sign up, see Mr. Murphy in Room 225, or contact him at murphy@jesuitnola.org or (504) 483-3872. There is a maximum of five volunteers per morning.
