On Friday night the Blue Jays defended home court by defeating Brother Martin, 50-38 , in front of a packed crowd. The Jays now sport a 4-2 district record as they turn the corner to the second round.

The first half of play on Friday was an inspired one for the Blue Jays, who held Brother Martin to just 10 points while scoring 25 of their own. Senior forward Zachary DeBlieux dominated both ends of the floor. While limiting the Crusader’s leading scorer to just two points, DeBlieux added eight to the Jay’s tally, including two crowd-pumping three-pointers from the corner.

Brother Martin rallied in the second half, however, mounting a 10-0 run midway through the third quarter by capitalizing on Jesuit turnovers and making big plays on penetration in transition. The Jays were able to put a tourniquet on their bleeding lead and kept it in the double digits with precision free throw shooting. In fact, 12 of Elijah Morgan‘s 24 points came from the free throw line, and the team shot 80% from the charity stripe. Aggressive moves to the basket by DeBlieux and Kyle Haupt also resulted in buckets to preserve the lead in the final minutes.
