Senior John Nuttli picked up wins in both singles and doubles in Jesuit’s win over Country Day on March 1.

Jesuit’s tennis team rode strong performances on Line 1 to a 7-0 shutout win over Country Day on Thursday, March 1 at the UNO Tennis Center.

In singles, junior David Nimmo went to a tiebreaker before pulling out a clutch victory by a score of 8-7 (10-7).

“I missed a couple of birthdays waiting for that one to end,” said assistant coach Jay Combe ’83. “But that’s David’s game. He just methodically saps his opponent’s will to live, much less play tennis. It can take hours, but he usually emerges with a “W.”

At the top of the doubles line-up, sophomore Wes Melito and freshman David Webster played some of their best tennis of the year in posting an 8-1 victory.

Melito and Webster also picked up wins in singles at Line 2 (8-4) and Line 3 (8-0), respectively. Senior John Nuttli picked up an 8-0 win on Line 4 to close out the singles sweep.

In doubles play, freshman Nick Crockens teamed with Nuttli for an 8-0 win on Line 2. Country Day forfeited Line 3.

The team now takes a two-week break before heading to Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Thursday, March 15 for the Decoturf National Tournament.
