QuizBowl-IMG_2022Both varsity Quiz Bowl teams (A & B) advanced undefeated through 18 teams from across Louisiana on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the ESA Cade Cane Classic in Broussard. The Blue Jays then faced off against each other in the championship match where Jesuit’s B team, led by captain Dexter Webster and featuring strong performances from Michael Dowling, Bradley Fugetta, Michael Owers, and Donald Webster lost their only match to the A team, led by captain Robert Cerise, with impressive performances from Eddie Redmann, Caleb Rogers, and Daniel Sartin. Caleb Rogers was the tournament’s top scorer, with Eddie Redmann recognized as the 6th highest scorer and Michael Dowling as the 9th highest.

In December the Jays placed first in the local Mount Carmel Invitational which qualified them for the 2018 High School National Championship Tournament to be held in May. The Invitational featured twenty teams from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. In the varsity division, both Jesuit and St. Martin’s Episcopal entered the final match undefeated. Jesuit led 230-220 after 13 questions; down the stretch, Eddie Redman had two powers to help clinch the game for Jesuit. The tournament was sponsored by the Louisiana Quiz Bowl Alliance.
