Getting Past the Headlines: Pope Francis and Marriage

Featuring Fr. John Brown, S.J.

Wednesday, December 6, 2017

7:00 PM – Mass • Chapel of the North American Martyrs

7:30 PM – Reflection, followed by Refreshments • St. Ignatius Hall

Charlene and Jay Baudier '68 visit with Leah and Mat Grau '68.

Spouses or guests of alumni are most welcome for the Evening of Reflection in Advent, while those in Lent are for alumni only. Enjoying the event last year were Charlene and Jay Baudier ’68 and Leah and Mat Grau ’68.

In April of 2016, Pope Francis released the document Amoris Laetitia, which summarized teachings on marriage and the family following a meeting of bishops to discuss contemporary issues in the Church. In the flurry of polemic headlines which followed the release, overlooked perhaps was the pope’s desire to emphasize the joy which comes from love in the family. Are we hearing his message? What does the pope have to tell us about love in our own families as a path to holiness and life in Christ?

Fr. John Brown, S.J., superior of the Jesuits at Jesuit High School and Immaculate Conception Church, will explore these questions and more at the Alumni Evening of Advent Reflection on Wednesday, December 6 at 7:00 PM. Fr. Brown not only approaches the questions from an intellectual perspective as a Jesuit, but also from his experience as one of 12 children growing up in south Louisiana.

Jesuit alumni and their spouses are welcome to attend this evening of reflection. Light refreshments and socializing will follow the Mass and presentation.

Questions about the event should be directed to Jeremy Reuther.
